Interview with Officer Rushing

Officer Joey was a really nice person. He is always nice and talks to people. He’s also so funny and kind-hearted. He loves his job and the students. He loves his daughters and hopes he can see his daughters around the school. He always has a smile. He said he tries to be happier each day. He always tries to help when someone needs it. He always loves talking to people, he just loves talking. He is a very talkative person

When and why did you decide to become a school resource officer?

He decided to become a research officer about 2 years ago, he didn’t want to become a detective so he became an SRO instead.

Tell me about your first day as an SRO.

He said it was fun but he was so nervous. He said it was like starting a new school.  

How is being an SRO different from what you’d imagine it would be? 

He said it was like he was a school counselor rather than being an officer. 

Tell me about a time when being an SRO ever made you feel helpful.

A time when he helped find a stolen phone.

What are the most challenging or funniest moments you have experienced as an SRO?

Last year he put a rotten goose egg in one of the principal’s offices and it exploded, he got into a lot of trouble.

How would you like students to remember you?

Someone who is always happy as ever.

Were there any other SRO/s who had a strong influence on your life? If so, what did you learn from them?

Officer Andy,  Joey learned how to talk to students and how to be happy when coming to work from him.

Looking back, what advice would you give yourself or others in their first year of being an SRO?

Try to have more fun and do a lot of tricks on people.

How has your life been different than what you’d imagine it to be?

He wanted to be a farmer and not an officer but he said he didn’t have a farm so he couldn’t do it 

Do you have any regrets? 

He regrets not having a farm or buying one.

If you could talk to a younger version of yourself, what would you say?

He would invest in a Tesla and stay away from girls who ride horses.  

What is the most beautiful place you have ever seen?

Hawaii and a patch of woods he used to have when he was growing up.

His grandparents.

What are you most proud of?

His 2 daughters.
